Dr. Debjani Chatterjee, so deservedly, has been awarded the MBE for her services to literature. She will receive the honour at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace later in the year. We are sure that all our readers and contributors will join with us in extending our warm congratulations to Dr. Chatterjee!

Bazm-E-Tadeeb International's remit, under the terms of its original Arts Council award, included the production of four issues of Tadeeb International, its organizational development, provision of financial awards for the best new writers and the hosting of two international literary events to bring together established and new writers from the different cultures.

We fully discharged these commitments and were able to establish in the Final Report to the Arts Council, amongst other things, that:

·        the estimated readership number is 2456, on average, per issue

·        688 writers contributed to the 4 issues of whom 102 were women artists, 58 were young artists, 84 were new artists, and 14 new writers were resourced

·        26 artists participated in the events hosted by Bazm-E-Tadeeb International and 256 people attended the events

In collaboration with the Pillars of Light Festival exhibition, Cartwright Hall Museum , on September 21st, 2007 and for 6 months following an exhibition of the literary paintings and calligraphic works of Aslam Kamal, poet, painter, calligrapher, novelist and travel writer, and sometime Cultural Ambassador for Pakistan was mounted. Aslam Kamal gave a brief lecture on the literature of M’hd Iqbal and Faiz Ahmed Faiz, two iconic poets of the Urdu literary cannon. He guided guests at the opening through the literary meanings of his works. For the several weeks that he stayed in Bradford , Aslam Kamal was available daily to visitors to the exhibition, including school parties.

As well, in October, 2007, in collaboration with Ilkley Literatute Festival, October 1, 2007, Tadeeb’s distinguished Associate Editor, Dr. Debjani Chatterjee, led a very successful Ghazal Workshop. Participants performed their creations at the vibrant International Mushaira, presided over by our polymath of an Advisory Editor, Dr. Mukhtar Uddin Ahmed, and held the same afternoon. Bazm-E-Tadeeb International sponsored Aslam Kamal and Professor Michele Roberts, poet and novelist, as the lead poets in Urdu and English, respectively.

It gave great delight to everyone involved in the Tadeeb project that Tadeeb International reached fifth position in the top twenty list of The Incwriters Society Journal Award for an Outstanding Contribution to Literature, 2006. (102 literary journals submitted.) Similarly, we are delighted to announce that we achieved seventh place, out of a field of 170, for 2007. We learnt the good news at a splendid awards function, mounted by Incwriters, at Manchester City Hall on March 11, 2008. Please do visit Incwriters' Website and also the INP report on the awards, and much else. This international literary site, established, inspirationally, by Andrew Oldham and run by cohorts of volunteers from all corners of the globe, performs a wonderful service in bringing writers and publishers together.

Now, we are on the long, hard trail of fund-raising in order to continue and develop our activities. A crucial aspect of our plans is to exploit website technology fully. In a twelve month period, www.tadeeb.com received 30302 hits and 5565 visits. Our intention is to produce the journal online as well as in paper form, with the capacity to buy or subscribe to either format via the website. Beyond this, we also intend to have a discussion and comment email facility. We have exciting ideas for international literary events as well. Watch this space!

We are receiving submissions in a steady stream and we are in the process of creating the next issue of Tadeeb International. The more submissions, the better, so, should you wish to make a submission, please present it in Word's rtf format (Rich Text Format) and send it to tadeebintl@hotmail.com. Please note that this is the new, and sole, official email address of Tadeeb International. We shape the literary ‘architecture’ of Tadeeb International with great care, so that material not necessarily included in one issue will in all likelihood be in another. The Editors work closely with contributors throughout the editing process.
